Information for Seminar Speakers:

Thank you for agreeing to come to Hopkins Marine Station to give a seminar. We have a fully equipped LCD projector and internet ready computer at your disposal in a lecture hall pictured below. Seats one hundred comfortably, but we usually get 20-40 for a typical Friday seminar, more for a Friends seminar.

Podium Computer Specs:

Dell Vostro laptop with Vista Business and Office 2007. Mac user should bring their own laptop as Power Point files from a Mac often do not play on a PC. Our laptop has internet access over a T1 line [1.4MB/sec.], but only registered computers have net access, so plan on using ours if you need this.

Projector Specs:

Sharp LCD projector with native 1024 x 768 resolution capable of syncing up to 1600x1200, NTSC capable, with remote switching of sources, black screen, laser pointer. [VCR with VHS and SVHS capability tied into this projector, DVDs through a laptop.]

Syncs with most laptops with VGA out. Mac people remember to bring your adapter. Wise to set up ahead of time as different computers have different ways of dealing with external output. Please turn off screen savers and power savers on laptops. 110 VAC available.

Slides and Overheads:

We have a Kodak 440 carosel projector with extra bright bulb for 35mm slide projection and an overhead projector for overheads. NOTE: we are not cabable of dual projectors or dual projectors with dissolves. Only one screen in the center of the room.

Recording your talk

We are able to record sound and video to a standard DVD disc or tape for up to two hours per disk and 90 min. for tape. Let us know ahead of time as this takes a little longer to set up. Grunt quality, not Hollywood.

Lights

You have control of the lights from the podium area. Typically we use the one switch on the wall behind you that cuts the front half of the room. This is dark enough to see whatever is projected without encouraging people to fall asleep.

Polycom:

We have a Polycom video conferencing system for remote lecture sharing. Please tell us in advance if you want this. We often use video conferencing as part of a course.
