BIOHOPK 30. Frontiers in Marine Biology:
The oceans cover three-quarters of the earth's surface, contain over 90% of the biosphere, and are home to the vast majority of plants and animal species. This course is designed to introduce the diversity of marine environments and their inhabitants and includes discussion of physical oceanography, near shore and pelagic ecology, adaptations to aquatic life and to extreme conditions, global change, conservation, and the effects of human activity. The course is taught by the faculty of Stanford's Hopkins Marine Station and includes discussion sections and a field trip to Hopkins. 2 units. (taught on main campus autumn quarter)
