BIOHOPK 277H. Biomechanics, Ecological Physiology and Genetics of Intertidal Communities:
Introduction to the mechanical, physiological and genetic design of wave-swept organisms. How different abiotic stresses (wave exposure, wind speed, temperature, light) influence marine animals and plants, and adaptive responses to these stresses at individual population levels. Lab introduces methods for measuring environmental stress and organismal responses and genetic composition of populations. Recommended: background in phycology, intertidal ecology, or invertebrate zoology; basic physics and calculus. Alternate years, given 2008-09. 4 units. Denny, Palumbi, Somero [WEBSITE]
