BIOHOPK 161H/261H. Invertebrate Zoology:
Want a closer look at the unique organisms that inhabit the Monterey Peninsula coastal waters? Invertebrate zoology offers a personal lens into the phylogeny, physiological, behavioral ecology and anatomy of the major invertebrate phyla. Topics include body plan development, reproductive mechanisms, and life history cycles that make phyla and classes of invertebrates unique. Also integrated into the class is a lab, once a week, during which students observe, dissect and document invertebrate specimens discussed in the week’s lectures. The class combines classic phylogenetic discussion with hands-on self-directed observation of Monterey’s invertebrate community. Prerequisite: the Biology core or consent of instructor. 5 units.
